‘Astral Pilgrimage’ is the latest in a long line of exciting, ambient house releases from the French producer Renart. The amorphous textures of the piece create an ever-changing atmosphere for the retro melodies to sit above. Moving from shuffling, funky drum patterns, through soft pads, swelling strings and harsh white noise to develop a piece full of contrasting moods and feelings, rather than falling into the trap of repetitiveness, which often befalls tracks in this ilk.
